Directors, Crowd Sourced Funding Equity Raising Presents Great Opportunities!

Issue 021

If you want to grow your business, stay ahead of competitors and offer a wide range of solutions to your clients – solutions that:

  • provide you with “new income streams” – through new businesses;
  • generate a variety of interesting work for your team, resulting in improved team morale, productivity and team retention;
  • enable management to improve their business skills;

you will probably be very interested in finding out about the Crowd Sourced Funding Equity Raising opportunities that are now available for private companies.

Do you envisage that you will expand your business or purchase a new business or pay off debt?

If your annual group turnover and gross asset value is under $25 million, you are potentially eligible to raise up to $5 million every 12 months from the public (if the market supports your proposal of course)!  Sure, you have to allocate shares in your company – but you are receiving funds to assist in improving your business operations.  This is part of ongoing “wealth creation” you don’t have to own 100%!

The Australian Parliament approved the amendments to the Corporations Act to enable private companies to raise capital from the public on 12th September 2018.  The legislation will commence operations 28 days after the Royal Assent – so, I believe, Crowd Sourced Funding Equity Raising for private companies will be available from around mid-October 2018.

There is “no gain without pain” so there is a fair bit of work to get your company “investment ready” if you wish to avail yourself of this opportunity, that businesses in most other Western countries, have been able to utilise for the last 5 to 7 years.

You are invited to participate in a free webinar – “Crowd Sourced Funding Equity Raising for Private Companies Explained” on Wednesday 26th September at 12.30pm (AEST) – to register click here.

Your second task might be to brush up on your corporate governance knowledge, because you’ll need to be on top of your company directors’ duties and responsibilities, if you want to successfully raise capital for your company.

You could join the Corporate Governance Network Workshop/Webinar Program throughout 2018/19.

The video recording for workshop/webinar number 2 features presentations by:

  • Andrew Geddes – Company Director, recently retired as Chair of Greencross Limited, who is analysing the journey Greencross took from a start-up in Townsville to a public company in the ASX top 200. In his presentation Andrew identifies a number of very helpful hints for company directors.
  • Paul Barnaby – National Representative for Plan Guru, discusses the importance of budgets and cashflow forecasts and why directors need to understand how they are prepared and how to monitor them.
  • Ross Contarino – Business Facilitator – Supply Chain, Australian Industry Group, discusses the extra security that most businesses need to implement to guard against cyber security problems.
  • Trevor Marchant, Managing Director, Marchant Dallas, emphasises that having a positive attitude to sales of products/services is very important, especially for a company raising capital from the public.

The corporate knowledge update presented this month incorporated comments on:
